Man found guilty of attempted murder after shooting at car

A man was found guilty of attempted murder after the St. Joseph County Prosecutors Office says he shot at a car containing two children.

James Carter III, 31, was found guilty on Thursday, July 13, of our felony counts, including attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness for the shooting that happened in January of 2016.

The victims, who were between 12 and 14 at the time, were riding in a car when they noticed an SUV approaching them.

They told police a suspect, later identified as Carter, leaned out of the vehicle and shot at the vehicle.

The victim’s car crashed in an attempt to get away.

Carter will be sentenced on August 10.
