Woman held in LaPorte County Jail pronounced dead at hospital

A 35-year-old woman being held at the LaPorte County Jail died after being found unresponsive in her cell.

It was around 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, when a jail supervisor was conducting routine cell checks and counts. Andrea Roberts was found unresponsive. The jail supervisor began to render aid and resuscitation efforts.

Members of the LaPorte County Emergency Medical Services arrived and took Roberts to LaPorte Hospital.

She was pronounced dead just after 10:30 p.m.

Roberts had been incarcerated at the La Porte County Jail since June 2. She was being held on several warrants that included both misdemeanor and felony charges.

At this time, the cause of death is not known.
