Could a smoking ban be coming to Goshen? If a council member gets her way, then yes.

Julia Gautsche proposed a smoking ban in the city at this past week’s city council meeting. ABC 57 says she feels there’s no safe level of second-hand smoke and that it’s time for the city to step up.

Her proposed ban would ban smoking in bars and would also ban e-cigarettes in addition to tobacco. The ban would be on top of a statewide ban that passed in 2012.

Some council members oppose the ban, saying it interferes with personal choice and a business’s freedom. However, most council members seemed to support the idea of banning smoking in parks.

It’s not known when the ban would start if the measure passes.
