More details have been released about the death of a South Bend man last week.

48-year-old Roy Martinez died at a group home for people with mental challenges in the Keller Park area on August.

The probable cause affidavit for the man allegedly responsible for his death, 32-year-old Kennedy Kafatia, says that the two were involved in an altercation when Kafatia kicked Martinez in the shin, causing a four inch-long cut.

While Martinez went to call police, Kafatia went to another room. When police arrived, they allegedly discovered a large pool of blood under Martinez’s chair.

Martinez later died, and the pathologist says routine first aid would have saved Martinez’s life.

Kafatia is charged with neglect of a dependent causing death.
