A woman leaving a yard sale was struck by a vehicle on US 12 and later died.

It happened Friday morning, Aug. 11, near Bell Street while the 78-year-old victim was crossing the street to her car.

Michigan State Police had already issued warnings for shoppers attending this weekend’s Longest Garage Sale which stretches 180 miles from New Buffalo to Detroit this time each year.

Last year, a bicyclist was struck by a car and killed on US 12 in Edwardsburg during the sale.

Michigan State Police remind drivers that the speed limit is 55, and that people along the route of the sale should be extra aware of motorists entering and exiting residences.

The driver who struck the woman on Friday was reportedly going under the speed limit.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend in critical condition where she died due to her injuries.
