South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg detailed his plan for the city’s 2018 budget Wednesday night.

The mayor proposed a $356 million budget that he feels would help move the city into the future.

According to the South Bend Tribune, Buttigieg says the budget is designed to prevent wasteful spending while focusing on initiatives that target quality of life and public health. Home inspections looking for lead contamination and substance abuse programs would be part of that.

There would be $20 million for Police and Fire improvements, and $1.5 million to fund the South Shore Relocation project.

The council should vote on the budget in October, which has to be approved and submitted by November 1. At next Monday’s meeting, the public will be given the opportunity to give their thoughts on the budget.

Not a fan of Buttigieg! August 17, 2017 at 2:31 pm

Buttigieg talking out of the side of his mouth as usual…”the budget is designed to prevent wasteful spending while focusing on quality of life and public health. Home inspections looking for lead contamination and substance abuse programs would be part of that. This is ALL WASTEFUL spending and a complete misappropriation of tax payer money to fund others lifestyles. When will it stop? I do not care to fund permanent homes for the homeless. I do not want to pay for lead inspections in random peoples houses. I do not want to pay for a drug addicts problems that I don’t know nor am I related too. I do not wan to pay for “Public Health” as Buttigieg sees it…All of this budget has zero to do with me or anyone I know. Wasteful spending is the definition of every roundabout that our illustrious mayor has spent our money to construct. What makes this legal or even an acceptable budget? Nothing does. Please get to Washington soon Pete. You will fit right in!!! You can then help the Dems spend all the federal money on pure crap. Lucky you!!!!

Move into the future of what….cutting jobs in South Bend local people local jobs local taxpayers you should be more worried about bringing jobs to South Bend. Such as the issue with Four Winds Field Apartments you bringing outside people in using taxpayers money to pay their wages what’s a matter with you. You’re still getting your salary correct what about the guys & gals who aren’t working here, because of your choices. No way can anyone come in 50% less than all other bidders for this apartment deal and that’d be a legitimate deal how much are you getting?
