Mishawaka industrial site targeted for renewal project

(Tom Franklin/95.3 MNC)

An industrial site in Mishawaka will likely soon find itself in the crosshairs of a renewal effort.

Mayor Dave Wood says he’d like to see a neighborhood on the land, more than five acres that has been a dump, a rubber molding factory, and the home of the city’s maintenance fleet.

The South Bend Tribune says there are seven old industrial buildings scheduled for demolition on the site, which is surrounded by Cedar Street, Park Avenue, Mishawaka Avenue, and part of Edgewater Drive.

The city has not cemented an actual plan for the site, but the impending cleanup is the important first step for turning that area into a more habitable piece of land.
