Drivers are asked to avoid the area of Spring and Detroit Streets in downtown LaGrange as multiple police and fire crews are on the scene working a large structure fire.
The flames broke out around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the building that houses the Family Dollar Store in downtown LaGrange.
Steve Engleking works nearby and told 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at WOWO Radio in Fort Wayne, the building had collapsed around 3 p.m. He said fire departments from Sturgis, Middlebury and several other agencies were still at the scene.
Highway 9 through LaGrange is also closed due to the structure fire from U.S. 20 all the way through downtown. The entire town of Lagrange was placed under a water boil advisory due to low water levels while crews continue to battle the blaze.
Downtown Lagrange is covered in smoke.
