St. Joseph County 911 Dispatch executive director steps down

The search is on for the next executive director for the St. Joseph County 911 Dispatch Center.

After heading the center since February 2016, executive director Brent Croymans has stepped down.

He leaves as the dispatch center is in turmoil, with employees complaining about understaffing and overwork. Those same dispatchers held a rally outside the County-City building last month demanding more employees be hired.

Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood told ABC 57 that he’ll be remembered for a long time.

“Bringing multiple agencies under one roof happened under his watch,” said Mayor Wood. “While they brought everybody under one roof, we’re still dispatching like we’re totally separate agencies.”

Wood did say that Croymans has expressed an interest in staying on in an I-T role.

These employees need to band together and all agree to only work 40 hours a week. The higher ups would have no choice but to hire more dispatchers. Seems simple to me…
