An Elkhart man who allegedly ran from officers had to be treated for heat exhaustion afterwards.

At about 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department in Michigan tried to pull over a man going just under 100 miles per hour on Decatur Road in Penn Township.

Police say he took off running when he stopped, and he apparently ran quite a ways. ABC 57 says that’s because when officers and K-9 officer Faust tracked him, they had to go through three miles of thick woods and corn fields to find him. The chase was called off when Faust started to suffer from heat exhaustion.

The 24-year-old man from Elkhart was eventually found just north of Cassopolis. He’s facing fleeing, resisting, and driving without a license charges.
