A LaPorte man is being held on a $500,000 bond after an explosive device was found in his home on Wednesday.

According to LaPorte Police, Eric Weiler was formally charged Thursday with two counts of possession of a destructive device. The liquid explosive bomb was called “extremely powerful.”

On top of that, police are also investigating Weiler for improper activities involving a girl, including stalking and threatening her life.

Weiler lives on F Street, across the street from LaPorte High School. In a conversation with authorities he discussed two explosive devices he had built in his home, one of which was capable of destroying his house.

The liquid explosive bomb was detonated in a safe location.
