The zoning request change for the Ironwood Development in South Bend was approved by the Common Council Monday night.

The vote was unanimous to approve a change in zoning that would allow for single-family homes to be built near Ironwood and Edison Roads. The plan, which had raised some concerns with neighbors, was changed after developers met with residents in the area.

WSBT reports the new plan calls for 26 homes instead of 30, and is said to address most of the concerns of the people who will be living nearby.

Construction could begin next year, and the council commended the way developers and neighbors worked together to find a solution.
