Crash on Indiana Toll Road claims life of Chicago man

A Chicago man died from injuries in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road.

Troopers were called to eastbound mile marker 69 around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23, regarding a report of a passenger car stopped on the right shoulder and partially in the roadway, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.

As troopers were on the way to assist, Indiana State Police received another call that the car was hit by a semi.

The driver of the car, Rutherford Orr, 82, of Chicago, IL, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he later died, the news release stated.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.
