The admitted drug ring member who testified against his leader and an associate has been sentenced.
29-year-old Jorge Moreida of Elkhart was sentenced to four years in prison, four years with electronic monitoring, and 12-and-a-half years in prison suspended. He had been facing a 36 year prison term on the felony charges he faced alone.
However, the Elkhart Truth reports he cut a plea deal with prosecutors to testify against the leader of the drug ring, Luis Jaquez, and associate member Enedeo Rodriguez Junior.
Jaquez and Rodriguez were both found guilty, with Jaquez awaiting sentencing and Rodriguez sentenced to 28 years in prison and four years probation.
Together, they ran what Elkhart County officials say was the largest methamphetamine drug ring in the county’s history.
