Two fires left two local families homeless this holiday season.

A fire broke out at about 2 a.m. Sunday at a home on Wilber Street across from Muessel Grove Park. The South Bend Tribune reports a mother, her eight children, and other family members escaped the fire, which started in a bedroom.

The day before, a fire destroyed a home in Union, Michigan. The early morning fire Saturday on Spencer Road required six fire departments to put out. A dog needed CPR, but is expected to survive. A family living at the home were spending time with loved ones elsewhere when the fire started.

Both homes are total losses. A GoFundMe page has been established for the Union family.
