North Liberty man arrested after reportedly shooting dog “execution-style” in Lakeville

A man is in custody after police say he shot a dog outside of a store in Lakeville.

52 year-old Jon Hanley of North Liberty was taken into custody for the shooting, which happened around one in the afternoon on Saturday, according to WSBT.

The shots were reported in the parking lot of the Working Person’s Store on Michigan Street in Lakeville. The German Shepherd escaped from a leash and was was reportedly shot “execution-style” by Hanley, who reportedly had been trying to help capture the dog with the owner.

The dog supposedly barked at Hanley, but police say there was no evidence that the animal made any attempt to bite him.

The dog is recovering and Hanley faces felony charges that could include animal cruelty.
