South Bend’s School Field could be getting a new surface.

Next year, Adams and Washington might be playing on field turf during their home games, under a new $1.5 million proposal.

It was one of a number of architectural projects approved by the South Bend School Board Thursday night. Under the plan, an invitation to use the facility would be extended to all South Bend High School football teams, as well.

The vote allows the design phase to move forward for the improvements at the field, which dates back to the 1930s. It might also open the door for IHSAA tournaments to be played there in the future.

Renovations would also include improvements to field lighting, concessions, and more.
