North Liberty man accused of shooting dog in Lakeville facing additional charges

The man accused of shooting a dog in Lakeville is facing additional charges in connection with the alleged crime.

In addition to a previous charge of criminal recklessness, Jon Hanley, 53, of North Liberty, is charged with attempted killing of a domestic animal and criminal mischief.

The German Shepherd escaped from a leash and was was allegedly shot “execution-style” by Hanley, who reportedly had been trying to help capture the dog with the owner, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The charges were added after the prosecutor’s office consulted the veterinarians who treated the dog, named Major.

Hanley’s next court date is a status hearing schedule for March 5.
