Some good news about the dog who was shot outside of a store in Lakeville two weeks ago.

Major, the German shepherd, is still living with a feeding tube. However, WNDU reports he has had his breathing tube removed and is breathing on his own.

53 year-old Jon Hanley of North Liberty is accused of shooting the dog on Dec. 30 outside of the Working Person’s Store with a 9mm handgun, and is charged with criminal recklessness. No charges specifically related to the shooting of the dog have yet been filed.

At his arraignment last week Hanley was ordered to surrender all of his firearms. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison. His initial hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
