Amtrak to close ticketing booth at historic Niles train depot

Amtrak customers who usually buy tickets at the Niles Railroad Depot will have to go elsewhere soon…or at least to their phones.

Starting March 1, the ticket window will be shutting down, and a representative told ABC 57 that customers who depended on the depot for tickets and services will have to go to the South Bend station after then.

eTickets can be acquired at Amtrak.com, Amtrak’s phone apps, or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245), with tickets printed at home or displayed on a smartphone.

The ticket booth’s closure doesn’t impact the waiting area or passenger assistance, which will still be available to travelers coming to and from Niles.

ABC 57 reports that some Amtrak customers are upset with the change, and are even going as far as to write Niles city councilmembers, Mayor Nick Shelton, and Congressman Fred Upton.
