Bloomberg Philantropies has named South Bend a “Champion City.”

South Bend is one of 35 Champion Cities that have made the cut in its 2018 U.S. Mayors Challenge, which is a nationwide challenge to encourage city leaders to “uncover bold, inventive ideas that confront the toughest problems cities face.”

South Bend’s proposal suggests a collaboration between the city, employers, and ride-sharing companies to give low-income workers in South Bend a way to get to and from work. 35-percent of low-income workers in South Bend say a lack of reliable transportation is the primary barrier between them and employment.

South Bend beat out nearly 300 other communities to earn the honor.

Four cities will earn $1 million awards in October and one will get $5 million to help bring their ideas to life.

Beware of strangers baring gifts. Michael Bloomberg former Mayor of NYC wants to give SB a million bucks. I would look for strings. But, maybe he really doesn’t want to tell you what those “bold, inventive ideas” should be. But, maybe he really does know better than you what community problems and solutions should be addressed here in SB. But, moving on to more realistic endeavors, I need to go check my trail cameras for Unicorn activity back in the woods.
