Authorities are investigating a shooting that left a 21-year-old woman dead on Pierre Moran Drive.

Officers and first responders were called to the 300 block of Pierre Moran Drive shortly before 12 p.m. on Monday, Sep. 7, following a report of a shooting.

Police found the woman inside a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers provided first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities identified the victim as 21-year-old Jessica Martinez.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated and is leading the investigation.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the shooting. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center on a preliminary charge of reckless homicide.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public and believe the shooting was an isolated incident.
