There is a new member on the South Bend Common Council as Sharon McBride was elected, on Saturday, Feb. 24, to represent South Bend’s Third District.

McBride fills the seat vacated by Randy Kelly who resigned his position two weeks
ago.

McBride came out on top of eight candidates running for the position. She was sworn by City Clerk Kareemah Fowler after the ballots were counted.

McBride will attend her first Common Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 26.

McBride also is the Executive Director of Ducomb Center, which was one of the first work release facilities in the state of Indiana.

It serves as an alternative to incarceration, and provides programming in job readiness, substance abuse and cognitive skills.
