New Elkhart High School will not play in Northern Lakes Conference

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

Some changes are in the works for Elkhart High School athletics.

The new school, merging the student bodies of Central and Memorial High Schools, has announced that they will be leaving the Northern Lakes Conference. The Times-Union reports that the 2019-2020 school year will be the city’s last in the NLC.

The new school, which will be the result of the merger in time for the 2020-2021 school year, will not apply for membership in the conference.

The NLC says they will take applications for new members through May 15 of this year.

Memorial had been part of the NLC for 18 years. Central plays in the Northern Indiana Conference with the likes of South Bend schools, Mishawaka, Penn, and surrounding area schools.
