A 3-car crash in Berrien County sent a South Bend man to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the crash around 3 p.m. Tuesday, and found the man pinned in his minivan. He was transported by MedFlight to Memorial in South Bend, and though serious, his injuries were said to be not life-threatening.

Officials believe the victim had stopped behind a semi on US-12 in Bertrand Township that was stopped for a garbage truck, when another garbage truck crashed into the van and pushed it into the back of the semi.

An investigation is underway and speed, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
