Update: The wrong-way driver has been identified as 43-year-old Tory Leroy Miller of South Bend. Cass County deputies say he’s in stable condition at Memorial Hospital and is expected to recover.

A wrong-way driver is being blamed by Cass County deputies for causing a four-vehicle crash near Niles.

At about 4:15 Saturday morning, a 23-year-old Kalamazoo woman had to swerve her box truck to try to avoid the wrong-way driver. She failed and crashed into the vehicle, causing the truck to crash and overturn in the median.

A semi being driven by a 59-year-old Cassopolis man was then hit by the wrong way driver and crashed as well, careening of the road and overturning in a farm field, spilling its payload.

A third vehicle being driven by a 28-year-old Granger man crashed into the median to avoid the first box truck that had crashed in front of him.

The driver of the wrong way vehicle, who was not identified, was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. This after he had to be pulled out of his vehicle after it caught fire. The other drivers weren’t hurt.
