Leesburg partially shutdown after train hits semi

(Mike Wilson/News Now Warsaw)

Most of Leesburg was blocked off Wednesday morning following a crash involving a train and a semi at the Van Buren Street crossing near the Leesburg Mill.

No injuries were reported in the crash, which happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. The crash effectively blocked any traffic going in or out of Leesburg on the east side.

Cleanup is expected to be ongoing, as the crossing suffered extensive damage.

Dispatch tells WNDU the semi was taking a detour due to construction. That is when it had to make a sharp turn and got stuck on the train tracks.

The driver reportedly called police about his truck getting stuck on the tracks shortly before the train hit.
