Warrant issued for man in connection to child neglect case

A South Bend man charged in a disturbing child neglect case missed his first court date.

Aldo Aranda, 30, was set for a hearing on Thursday, May 31, after being charged with multiple felony counts of child neglect the week before.

He bonded out of St. Joseph County Jail after posting a $6,000 cash bond.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

His wife, Maria Kulian Benitez, 29, is also charged and is still in St. Joseph County Jail.

Three children, ages 8, 7, and 3, were found severely malnourished at their home on North Olive Street.

One of the can’t communicate or follow simple instructions and was so malnourished, she’ll likely be in the hospital for several weeks or months, according to investigators.
