(Abby Lutz/ABC 57)

Officers in St. Joseph, Michigan were involved in a standoff with a suicidal man that reportedly poured gasoline all over his house and threatened to light it on fire and kill himself.

Officers responded to the home on the 800 block of Wolcott at about 7:35 a.m. ABC 57’s Kelvin Henry says at least 40 officers and first responders were on the scene, either dealing with the man or evacuating nearby homes.

St. Joseph Public Safety officials also confirmed that he cut a gas line in the house, causing the evacuation of several homes nearby and other neighbors to shelter in place.

The man reportedly did light his home on fire, which caused police to enter the home and apprehend him.

The man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Lakeview Hospital. Otherwise, there were no other injuries.
