Three Rivers woman dies while trying to cross M-40 in Cass County

A Three Rivers woman was struck and killed by a car in Cass County.

It happened on M-40 near Spatterdock Lake Street south of Jones, Michigan at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

76-year-old Shirley Boersma was walking across the highway when deputies say she was hit by a vehicle being driven by a 77-year-old Jenison man.

Boersma died at the scene. The crash is still under investigation, but alcohol was not a factor.
