Steps are being taken to bring new growth to Elkhart in the form of a new Martin’s Supermarket and more residential housing.

The city’s Redevelopment Commission is working within a $34 million-dollar project that will relocate the Easy Shopping Center South Martin’s Store and put up residential homes in the area. It’s part of the bigger, $250 million revitalization plan.

ABC 57 reports that the changes would renew the streetscape and put another 220 to 240 more individuals downtown.

The plan has been approved by the Redevelopment Commission but still needs the approval of the Elkhart City Council, the Elkhart Economic Development Commission, and other steps before it can move forward.

It would be completed by mid to late 2020.
