A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting, last week, in South Bend.

Darius Harper is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and carrying a handgun without a license, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Harper shot his uncle, on Wednesday, July 11, in the 600 block of West LaSalle Street, according to authorities. The uncle was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Harper arrived at the hospital with stab wounds.

According to court documents, the uncle says Harper pulled a gun on him during a drug deal and he stabbed him. He said Harper then shot him several times and he played dead until Harper left.

Harper claims his uncle attacked him first, the court documents stated.

Harper was ordered held without bond until his initial bail hearing, which is set for Wednesday afternoon.
