A woman accused of suffocating and dropping a 19-month-old boy who died of his injuries is scheduled to be in court on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

As we earlier reported, police were called to Hickory Village Apartments in Mishawaka around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Tearra Montgomery, 24, told police after the boy’s mother left for work, the boy was awake and crying.

Montgomery said she pushed 19-month-old Zyon Harris and he fell, according to the probable cause affidavit.

She also said she held his face down into a robe until he stopped crying, the court document stated.

Once the boy was quiet, she said surfed the internet, took a shower, then later checked on the boy and found him unresponsive. She then said she dropped him onto the floor, but later said she threw him to the floor.

Montgomery is charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death and one count of battery resulting in death to a person less than 14 years old.
