Group seeking a mascot change at Paw Paw schools

A billboard on I-94 outside of Paw Paw is calling for the town’s high school to make a change of mascot.

The Michigan Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media, and takes issue with the nickname Redskins. The coalition seeks to have the name removed from sports teams and mascots across the state.

Last February, after several meetings to discuss the matter, the Paw Paw school board voted to keep the Redskins name. A number of schools across the country are adopting mascots that no longer make any reference to Native Americans.
