New look for South Bend Police officers

The South Bend Police Department has a new look and it includes a hat-tip to the original look, from the department’s founding 115 years ago.

The triangle shape of the new patch for the South Bend Police is the same shape as that 1903 design, and will be sewn onto a newly designed uniform.

Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski says everyone in the department was involved in the design change, and the new uniform was made necessary by the inclusion of body cameras.

Officers will all be sporting the new look by the beginning of January.

There will also be new logos on the department’s police cars.
