The man killed in a train vs truck crash near the St. Joseph/Elkhart County Line has been identified.

The black pickup truck, driven by Franky Reeves, 23, of Osceola, was struck by the train around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 5.

The vehicle was dragged hundreds of yards into Elkhart County. Emergency officials responded to the scene that blocked Lincolnway from State Road 19 to Ash Road.

The truck was reportedly on fire when officials arrived at the scene. Police say the train engine has also caught on fire, as well.

The coroner’s office was called to the scene and the area was busy for much of the morning. Numerous crossings in the area were impacted by the crash.

It’s believed Reeves attempted to drive around the crossing arms and was dragged for hundreds of yards.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
