A Berrien County man accused of battering his girlfriend’s baby in April of 2017 has been acquitted of child abuse.

Bradley Penley’s trial began in August, and after two weeks of testimony the jury acquitted him.

He had claimed that the boy had fallen off the couch and hit his head, something several doctors said was unlikely given the nature of the injury.

Defense witnesses, however, backed up the possibility of Penley’s claim.
