Police responded to a call about a stabbing late Sunday night on South Bend’s south side, only to discover it was a hoax.

The caller said it happened at the McDonald’s on South Michigan Street.

Police arrived to find Phillip Eddy suffering several wounds, but they determined they were caused by fists, and not a knife, and were the result of a person helping defend Eddy’s girlfriend.

Eddy was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.
