Scam artitst using South Bend Police phone number in money grab attempt

Another scam artist is using a local police department’s phone number in their attempt to get money.

This time, South Bend Police report the scammer is spoofing the department’s phone number and using generic terms like “Police Department” or “Sheriff’s Department” to show up on call I-D.

The scammers say you have to pay a fine or you will get in trouble. They say they make threatening calls in that manner.

They also say anybody who gets a call with their number and it shows up as “police department” should ask for the badge number of the person calling. If they provide one, then call the police department back to verify if it actually is a real officer or not.
