Kennedy Academy was put on lockdown around 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, out of an abundance of caution after the South Bend Police SWAT Team was sent to the 700 block of Goodland.

The situation on Goodland began as a possible home invasion.

Responding officers heard a possible racking of a gun, backed off and contacted SWAT.

As far as Kennedy Academy, students who had arrived at school prior to the lockdown were safe in the building. Students whose buses had not yet arrived were diverted to a safe location away from the building, according to South Bend Schools.

The area of Westmore and Bendix was blocked to traffic due to the situation, according to South Bend Police.

Around 9:15 a.m., South Bend Police announced the situation had ended peacefully and four people were taken in for questioning. Three of people were released. The fourth person was arrested on unrelated warrants.
