Police around Michiana were busy dealing with crashes over the weekend.

One person was struck by their own vehicle in a chain-reaction crash on Dailey Road near Matthews Street in Cass County. The collision happened just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, when an Elkhart woman stopped her vehicle partially in the roadway due to mechanical problems. An Elkhart man stopped to help her. A 19-year-old man from Bronson then struck the back of the woman’s car which then hit the back of the man’s car, which then struck the owner. He wasn’t injured, but two others in the vehicles involved were hurt.

Emergency responders in Berrien County had to use the Jaws of Life to get two 16-year-olds out of a vehicle that struck a tree. The collision happened around 6:10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, on Botham Avenue east of Thayer Avenue.  The driver of the vehicle lost control and struck the tree.  After the teenagers were removed from the vehicle, they were taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland for treatment of their injuries. The Berrien County Accident Investigation team says drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factors in the crash.
