SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A member of the Mishawaka Common Council has been selected to replace a South Bend lawmaker who resigned from the Indiana House to take a job with a labor union.
WSBT-TV reports Ross Deal was selected by local Democratic Party officials after Democratic Rep. Joe Taylor announced this month he was leaving to take a position with the United Auto Workers International Union.
Deal served on Mishawaka’s council from 2008-2011, when he lost his seat. He re-gained it in 2016. Deal says that affordable health care is just one issue he plans on addressing while filling the House District 7 seat.
Taylor, an auto worker at AM General, was first elected in 2016. He was the ranking Democrat on the House Employment, Labor and Pensions committee.
