Firefighters find body in the East Race waterway in South Bend

An autopsy is set for Thursday, March 28, on a body found in the water in the East Race waterway in South Bend.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, South Bend Police were called by South Bend Fire Department crews who found the body while performing training exercises on the water.

The body appears to be that of a man in his 50s or 60s. It’s believed he was in the water a couple of days.
