Weekly brush pickup program in Elkhart resumes in April

The City of Elkhart has announced that the brush pickup program will switch back from the winter call-in schedule to weekly pickup beginning Monday, April 1.

As weekly pickup resumes, the Buildings and Grounds Department is asking residents to please keep in mind these helpful tips:

  • For the purpose of City collection, brush is defined as limbs no larger than six inches in diameter and eight feet in length.
  • Only brush from residential properties of four units or less will be collected. The City does not collect brush from commercial properties, professional tree and lawn services, or residential properties located outside the City limits.
  • Brush collection will occur on the same day as trash and recycling pickup, with a few exceptions. Pickup can start as early as 6:00 a.m., so brush should be placed at the curb, but not extending into the street, one day prior to collection.
  • All brush should be stacked in a single pile no larger than four feet tall, four feet wide, and eight feet in length.
  • The brush pile must be easily accessible. Place brush on the ground, away from trees, power lines and other obstructions.
  • Due to the limitations of equipment, brush should be separate from leaves and other yard debris. Brush that is mixed in with other yard waste or debris will not be removed.

For questions regarding the brush pickup schedule or guidelines, please contact the Elkhart Buildings and Grounds Department at 574-970-0542.
