BARAGA, Mich. (AP) — Parts of Michigan are getting hit with wintry weather as a storm system that unleashed a blizzard in the Upper Midwest moves through the region.

Light snow was reported Thursday morning in parts of the southern Lower Peninsula, but more snow and ice was forecast in northern portions of the state.

The National Weather Service says that the western Upper Peninsula is being placed under a winter weather warning through early Friday, with a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Snow accumulations of 6-10 inches are expected, with higher totals in places.

In the northern Lower Peninsula, snow and ice also could make driving hazardous.

In Michiana, a line of strong to severe thunderstorms was forecast to move through the area on Thursday night, April 11.

...Strong Wind Gusts Thursday Afternoon...

Easterly winds are expected to remain between 20 and 25 mph with

gusts as high as 45 mph for a few hours. Tree limbs may be blown
down and could fall onto utility lines, leading to isolated power
outages today. Make sure to secure any loose objects that may be
blown around in high winds.
This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northern Indiana and
southwest Michigan.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

There is a chance of strong thunderstorms tonight with an isolated
severe storm possible. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will likely
accompany a line of showers and thunderstorms late evening. A few
