South Bend Police arrest two people in connection with N. Portage shooting

South Bend Police arrested two men in connection to a shooting at the Phillips 66 station in the 3300 block of N. Portage in South Bend.

The shooting happened around 3:40 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Arrested are:

  • Sean Lott, Jr., 25: Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit and Resisting Law Enforcement
  • Deangelo Jackson, 27: Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of Marijuana.

When officers arrived they saw a male, later identified as Lott, running from the scene. He was detained and taken in for questioning.

While on scene, officers were notified a male, later identified as Jackson, had arrived with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was treated and released with non life threatening injuries.

Through the investigation, officers learned there was a fight inside the store between Lott and Jackson. During the struggle, Jackson was shot in self-defense.

The case has been turned over to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Officer for review.
