Elkhart man shot while trying to thwart car break-ins

An Elkhart man who tried to stop two people from getting inside vehicles in his neighborhood is recovering after being shot.

The incident happened around 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, in the 800 block of Kilbourn Street in Elkhart.

Officers located a victim that had a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to the Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

The victim interrupted two subjects entering nearby vehicles. The two subjects fled the scene on foot and fired gunshots.

The victim then realized his leg had been shot and went back inside the residence and
called police.
