Representative Jim Banks has introduced legislation designed to improve the safety of children at school.

Banks would like to see the establishment of a Child Safety Account program for students who face safety issues at school.

The accounts could be used for alternative education options to ensure that no student is forced to attend school in an unsafe environment.

Currently, the federal government only has jursidiction over the school system in Washington DC, and the legislation would serve as a model for state and local school districts to make the education system safer.

A school shooting was reported on Tuesday in Colorado, the same day Banks introduced the bill.
