A.I. could help keep kids safe at the bus stop

The answer to the problem of keeping children safe at the school bus stop could be artificial intelligence.

A new radar system that uses AI is being tested right here at home.

WSBT reports that a “Predictive Stop Arm” is being tested right now at the Elkhart Community Schools. The attachment on the exterior of the school bus monitors oncoming traffic. The system is capable of detect whether an oncoming vehicle is likely to stop or ignore the warnings and blow past the bus, and alert students not to cross the street if it determines the situation is dangerous.

Congresswoman Jackie Walorski will be at the Elkhart Community Schools Monday to see the Predictive Stop Arm work first-hand.
