SBFD loses one of their own to cancer

The South Bend Fire Department are mourning the loss of one of their Captains.

The Department says Captain David “Dutch” Koehler lost his battle with brain cancer on Wednesday evening, Aug. 7.

“Dutch” worked with the Swift Water and Technical Rescue teams and was an Advanced EMT. He was also a lead instructor with the Indiana River Rescue School.

Koehler was 55, and a 32-year veteran of the department who attended LaSalle High School.

Viewing will be Tuesday, August 13th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Saint Joseph Parish Gymnasium 216 N Hill St, South Bend, IN.

Full Honors Funeral with Mass will be Wednesday, August 14th at 10:00 a.m. at the Saint Joseph Church, 226 N Hill St, South Bend, IN.

A procession will follow the mass.
